Torchwood series 4 writers announced

Mathew Wace Peck over at Digital Journal had this interesting news tidbit, although not SJA related, it makes for some interesting Torchwood details:

The new writing team for the fourth series of Torchwood has been confirmed, and it includes names familiar to a number of US-produced series.

Russell T Davies, Torchwood's creator, head writer and executive producer, will be joined by Doris Egan, Jane Espenson, John Fay and John Shiban. They will share the writing duties with Davies – who has already written the first episode – for the rest of the 10-part series, which is a US/UK. In 2005, Davies was responsible for the successful revitalising of the BBC's long-running science-fiction drama, Doctor Who, which Torchwood is a spin-off from. He is also responsible for a number of other well-known dramas, including Queer As Folk, The Second Coming and Mine All Mine, as well as a second Who spin-off – The Sarah Jane Adventures, which stars Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith. Egan has already worked on House and Dark Angel, Espenson on Battlestar Galactica and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Shiban on Supernatural and The X Files. Fay has already written for Torchwood, sharing some of the writing duties with Davies on its third series. As reported by Digital Journal previously, the new season will tell an international story and feature an overarching story line akin to 2009's five-part Torchwood: Children of Earth mini-series. The Chicago Tribune refers to Davies's newfound love for this type of format, which allows for the telling of "one large, taut story rather than a dozen or so separate tales over the course of a season". "I absolutely love it," Davies says. "I've been writing for 20 years and it's very rare to be given a new format." Last month, Digital Journal reported that a number of new cast members would be joining John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) and Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper), and casting is currently underway. Meanwhile, there is still uncertainty as to whether Russell Tovey will be reprising his Doctor Who role of Alonso Frame for Torchwood. Frame and Captain Jack were last seen going off together in The End of Time (2010), David Tennant's last episode of Doctor Who, leading to speculation that Frame would be joining the Torchwood team. However, Tovey recently told the audience at the San-Diego Comic Con that he did not know what the future held for his character. World-wide filming on the BBC Wales/Starz co-production is due to begin in January 2011, for an expected summer 2011 broadcast in the UK and North America.

Julian Bleach aka. Davros as the Nightmare Man!  He's been on Doctor Who and Torchwood in the past, playing epically terrifying characters both times. That last title sounds very ominous, too. And according to writer Gareth Roberts, it's going to have a very 'doom-y feel to it'.

11th Doc and former companion Jo Grant come to SJA!!

According to the BBC press office:

Sarah Jane Smith is reunited with another of The Doctor's former companions, Jo Grant (Katy Manning), in a new series of The Sarah Jane Adventures, set to air on CBBC this autumn. They'll be joined by The Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith), in special editions penned by executive producer Russell T Davies.

The two episodes will see The Doctor and his two former time-travelling partners caught up in an alien-busting adventure that will entertain Doctor Who fans of all ages.

Elisabeth Sladen, who plays Sarah Jane comments: "It's a fantastic script and I can't wait to work with another Doctor and hope Matt has fun with us. I've known Katy for ages and I am delighted to be working with her. I last met her in LA but this time we will be in Cardiff. LA was good but Cardiff is better."

Katy Manning, who recently returned to live in the UK again, adds: "Playing Jo Grant again is something I never really considered. I was gob-smacked when they told me and I am over the moon. What an incredible little treat. I come home and this is one of the first things that happens."

Executive producer Nikki Wilson says: "We are absolutely thrilled to be introducing Sarah Jane and the gang to both The Eleventh Doctor and Jo Grant, and to have a script penned by Russell T Davies is the icing on the cake!

"Viewers are in for a real treat, with an action-packed story full of Russell's usual wit and warmth, which takes the gang inside a secret base beneath Snowdon and introduces brand-new vulture aliens, the mysterious Shansheeth. All this, plus a trip to an alien planet – a first for The Sarah Jane Adventures."

Featuring the usual mixture of thrills, laughs and scares, the fourth series promises fun with enemies old and new, including the terrors of the Nightmare Man and a dangerous journey back into history.

A galaxy of guest stars are lined up to appear in the series and include Laila Rouass (Primeval, Footballers Wives) and Cheryl Campbell (Pennies From Heaven), whilst David Bradley (Argus Filch in Harry Potter) will provide the voice of the Shansheeth.

The Sarah Jane Adventures is executive produced by Nikki Wilson and Russell T Davies and produced by Brian Minchin.

Writers on the fourth series include Phil Ford (also co-producer), Joseph Lidster, Rupert Laight, Gareth Roberts and Clayton Hickman. The Sarah Jane Adventures is a BBC Cymru Wales/Children's BBC production.

The new series 4 is set to start in late September or early October this fall.

New Doctor Who trailer from BBC highlights Matt Smith's Time Lord and the villians to be seen this season

The BBC has posted a teaser trailer for the upcoming new episodes of Doctor Who, featuring Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor and Karen Gillan as his new companion, which you can view below.

It's not a series of clips from the episodes, but rather a kind of homage to the villains we will see this series, such as the stone angels from the 2007 episode "Blink," which happens to have been written by Steven Moffat, Doctor Who's new show runner.
